Multimedia artist Pae White’s objects and installations regularly adopt a rhetoric of whimsy, iridescence, and ethereality to address the “artfulness” of the natural and of the everyday. Some of her most recent works in this tradition, these limited-edition bronze cast leaves transform the nature of White’s native California into art that is at once strong and delicate. White has exhibited nationally and internationally, and participated at the 2009 Venice Biennale and in the 2010 Whitney Biennial. White was part of an Art in General exhibition entitled Redrawing the Line in 2000 and kindly produced this Limited Edition piece in 2009 in support of the organization’s exhibitions and programs.
Pae White(American, b. 1963) is a multimedia artist known for reinterpreting familiar encounters and ordinary items—like animals, books, advertisements, shopping bags, and plants—and revealing what she calls the "artfulness" of the natural and the everyday. She employs ornate craftsmanship along with inventive materials to create objects and installations that transcend traditional boundaries between art and design. White studied at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena (MFA, 1991), the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine (1990), and Scripps College in Claremont, California (BA, 1985). She has been featured in solo exhibitions in United States and internationally. White was included in the Whitney Biennial, New York (2010) and the 53rd La Biennale di Venezia, Italy (2009). White’s work is held in public collections as Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Modern, London; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Art Institute of Chicago; and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.
